Tiffy’s Sosidan named CPL Player of the Month

Nhean Sosidan, Tiffy Army’s up-and-coming 21-year-old forward, was named Cambodian Premier League (CPL) Player of the Month for January. He becomes the second Cambodian player to win the award this season, along with Boeung Ket’s Mat Noron.

Sosidan was one of eight players from eight different clubs nominated for Player of the Month in January.

The best-performing players in January were Marcus Warren Haber, a Canadian striker for Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng, Shimizu Shintaro, a Japanese forward for Phnom Penh Crown, and seasoned midfielder Kouch Sokumpheak of NagaWorld.

On Friday the CPL selected Sosidan as Player of the Month.

Sosidan said he was thrilled to win the new accolade, which recognises his hard work and dedication. He believes that he owes some measure of his success to Phea Sopheaktra, Cambodian head coach of Tiffy Army, who believed in him and starts him first on a regular basis.

However, he said that his primary goal is not just to win individual awards, but mainly to help his team to finish solidly in the league battle this season.

“I am motivated to do my best to help the team finish in the top four after the end of the third-round qualification,” Sosidan told Khmer Times.

The young player has generated considerable excitement among Cambodian football fans with his outstanding achievements this year.

Sosidan, whose parents – possibly with dramatic foresight – named their child after French football hero ‘Zinedine Zidane’, has already scored nine goals for his team this season. His achievement places him among the top ten goal scorers in the CPL as of week 20.

This season, the left-footed midfielder has established himself as one of the Premier League’s fastest rising talents. However, Sosidan appears to be getting the more attention from fans and the media.

He has quickly established himself as a constant and essential player for Tiffy Army in both league competitions and at the Hun Sen Cup. The 21-year-old midfielder is well-known for his quick left foot, exceptional ball control and pinpoint passing ability.

Sosidan began his football career at Tiffy Army Academy. He was promoted to the senior professional team in 2020.

He has been chosen by both the Cambodian Junior and Senior National Football Teams as his talents became immediately obvious while after he joined the senior Tiffy Army team.

At the moment, Sosidan is confronting the daunting task to help his squad reach the top four of the CPL ranks.

At the end of week 20, Tiffy Army is in sixth place with 24 points. They are 26 points behind league leader Svay Rieng, 21 behind second-place Phnom Penh Crown, 11 behind third-place Visakha and four back of Boeung Ket.

There are seven matches left in the third-round qualifier, which is set to wrap-up on April 21.

Tiffy Army next faces defending champion Phnom Penh Crown in a challenging match on February 18 at Smart RSN Stadium.
